Welcome back to the Wrinkled Runner podcast. Today, I'm excited to share some fun news with all of you, especially if you're looking for a bit of inspiration or new ideas for your running journey, no matter where you are in it, whether you're a beginner or you've been running forever. So I am talking about the Boston Run Show, and it's a great event for runners of all levels, like I said, and it's happening again on March 1st and 2nd 2025. It will be at the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center, and I have been an ambassador for the event since its inception in 2023. In 2023. So it's young, it's only two years old. But what's super cool about it is it has gotten so big that they've actually had to move venues to be able to have it at the convention center. And because I'm an ambassador, I have the ability to give out free tickets for this event. So if you go to the bostonrunshowcom and use the code wrinkledrunner, you can register and get free tickets, and I'll, of course, put a link in the show notes for that. So if you've never been to, like a marathon, it has everything from gear and snacks and samples to running shoes, apparel, and it has a whole list of speakers and the people who are going to be there this year is a fantastic list. We've got Des Linden coming, who was a Boston Marathon champion. If you've been in the running world, I'm sure you know who Des Linden is, and she's going to be a speaker there. Laz Lake you might not be as familiar with him, but if you've heard of the Barkley Marathons, which is that crazy marathon in the Tennessee mountains, if you haven't heard about this, you really need to watch the documentary, and I don't know offhand what that is, but I'll put it in the show notes. He's going to be there and he's going to be speaking as well. Dave McGillivray, who is the race director from the Boston Marathon, is going to be there, as well as a whole bunch of other speakers, and each one has a different topic that they're going to be talking about. There's different workshops there, so, just for the speakers alone, this is going to be a really cool experience.
Speaker 1:The other thing, like I said earlier, is they have all the vendors, and so you can look at gear, you can try it on, you can try, you can buy. They have all sorts of brands that are going to be represented there, and the cool thing about exhibitions or conventions like this is you get some really good discounts from the convention. So if you come out, you know you can try all the things you know. There's all these energy bars that's actually the first place I ever tried athletic brewings, non-alcoholic beer. Now, I'm not a huge beer drinker, but my husband is and we don't drink at all alcohol during the week, so when he wants the taste of the beer he loves the athletic brewing and so some of the things that I use now on a regular basis I was introduced to at this convention.
Speaker 1:There's different zones there as well, so they have like the gait analysis zone where you can have somebody look at your form, tweaking your form. To me there are ways that you can run more efficiently. I think if it's not broken, don't fix it, but some people do have gait issues and they can see that at the gait analysis zone. There's also the Zen zone, so they'll do some yoga classes and balance training that you can do right there at the convention, and they also have a Kids Get Active Zone. So this can be an event for the whole family, if that's something that interests you, to bring your kids along as well and they can have fun there. There's also a bunch of other zones. There's the cold therapy zone. In case you've ever wanted to try that, the last time I was there they had a zone where you could try on those things that go on your legs and kind of massage your legs after a long run. So there's just all kinds of things to do Now.
Speaker 1:In addition to the run show, your ticket also gives you access to the Boston Outdoor Expo. So if you're into running and you're into hiking, trail running, camping, you're going to find plenty of inspiration and gear for your next adventure outside as well. So even if you're the only runner in your family or in a group of friends, having the Outdoor Expo at the same time that you have access to gives you some avenues to bring the family or friends and make a day or even a vacation out of it. Now I live in Buffalo so it's not like I can just drive down to Boston for the day. So I make a kind of a mini vacation out of it when I go to the expo there and my husband and I will go. We'll get in a day early, we'll stay a day late and we've actually done some of the walking tours that they have around Boston.
Speaker 1:There's some that you can do that are just self-guided online, and I'll link you to that too, because there's some really cool ones. Get you know, getting the vibe kind of of Boston as we're there. So we we make a long weekend out of it, and now that they have the outdoor expo in addition to the running expo, that gives you more avenues to have more people come with you or go with you If that's something that you're interested in. Come with you or go with you if that's something that you're interested in. Also, one thing that's really cool, and one thing that I also learned for the first time a couple years ago, is they are partnering with Souls for Souls, so that is a place that you can donate your old running shoes. That way, you can give back to the community, and it makes running more sustainable as well, instead of just either throwing out running shoes or keeping them forever, and I did a podcast episode on sustainable running shoe you know getting rid of that last season, so I'll link up to that.
Speaker 1:The other thing I like to do during this convention is have a meetup, and I'd love to see you there. I'd love to chat with you. We can talk about all things running and your race goals. Just say hi.
Speaker 1:It's a great opportunity to connect with fellow runners in our Wrinkled Runner community and details are going to be coming out soon. So make sure you're subscribed to my newsletter at wrinkledrunnercom to stay updated, or you can shoot me an email so I can send you registration information, because meetups take planning and unless I have people registered for it, if no one shows an interest or no one's registered, then obviously I'm not going to be at the. An interest or no one's registered, then obviously I'm not going to be at the places that I have planned for the meetup. So if you are interested at all, please let me know so that I can send you those details. So mark your calendars March 1st and 2nd Use the code wrinkledrunner at the Boston Run Show. Definitely I'll give you that link and grab your free tickets.
Speaker 1:It's going to be a really fun weekend. They're planning on some very easy group run for all levels as well. It's just a really fun time to get together with people who like to run and I will say get there early because they have some really awesome giveaways if you are in line before the doors open and I will be there giving things out as well. So another opportunity to kind of meet up. So share this episode with any running friends so that we can make sure that running conventions like this are able to get the word out, this are able to get the word out, so that this can continue to be something that is in existence and that we can have as a running community. The Wrinkled Runner code will work for an unlimited number of people, so get your tickets and you can get them for your running or your outdoor adventure friends.
